Photo Show – Call for Entries

Call for Entries

Photography in the Landscape, Celebrating 25 Years of Conservation

The Columbia Land Conservancy announces a juried photography exhibition that calls attention to the natural and agricultural beauty of Columbia County. Professionals and amateurs, as well as youth, are asked to submit photographs by Friday, October 7, 2011. The exhibit is juried by Carrie Haddad, who owns and manages two galleries in Hudson – Carrie Haddad Gallery and Carrie Haddad Photographs. The exhibit opens at Spencertown Academy on Saturday, October 15.

Columbia County is a place of extraordinary and incredibly varied beauty. We’re asking photographers to document the wonders of the land we inhabit and to show us new ways of looking at it. Works could include a broad range of subjects from panoramic landscapes to close-ups of agricultural life or the smallest flower. This exhibit will inspire people to appreciate our natural world and build support for conserving it.

Submission Form

The exhibit is open to images that are manipulated digitally, hand colored, altered, or unaltered photographs and can be of any style or subject which relates to the theme of the exhibit. Ultimate discretion for inclusion in the exhibit shall reside with Carrie Haddad and CLC.

The exhibit will have two categories: young persons (18 and under) and adults (both professional and amateurs are welcome). Entries should be framed and ready for hanging with suitable hanging wire attached or a frame designed to affix to a nail. Each framed photograph shall have the Entry Submission Form placed inside of a sealed envelope affixed to the back of the artwork to assure anonymity.

Each artist is limited to submitting up to 3 works. Submissions should be delivered in person, during office hours to the CLC office.

  1. Can we submit the photos on a disc? …or do they have to be framed for submission?

  2. Melissa Buckley says:

Are we able to put all 3 entry photographs onto one cd for the option of the audience award? Also, is there a prize for the selected photographs?

    • Michael Chameides says:

Yes, you can put all 3 entries for the audience award on a single disc. There is no prize (other than the recognition of being accepted into the show, participating in the exhibition, the recognition of winning the audience award, and supporting local conservation).

  3. Suzanne Michael says:

Not all commercial frames have hanging wires. Many frames are designed for the nail to grip the frame. Are these frames okay to use or must there be a wire? Please clarify. Many thanks.

  4. Daniel Bowlin says:

Would I retain rights to the photographs? After the exhibit what arrangements can be made for picking up the photographs?

    • Michael Chameides says:

The photographer would own the rights. To enter into the Audience Award competition, CLC would need rights to publish/post the photograph (and would always include a citation of the photographer). I’ll ask about arrangements for picking up photographs.

    • Michael Chameides says:

Accepted work can be picked up at Spencertown Academy on November 13 from 3 – 5pm. After that, they can be picked up at CLC during office hours. Good question, I will add to the text above.

    How ’bout people enjoying nature?
