Support Bicycle and Pedestrian Route Funding

bike on trailThe Cardin/Cochran Amendment to the Transportation Reauthorization Bill provides funding to local communities for safe bicycle and pedestrian routes. The amendment to MAP-21 (S. 1813) restores funding for all alternative transportation under the Transportation Enhancement (TE) Program through a competitive grant process.

The House/Senate Conference Committee is now finalizing the transportation reauthorization bill. Some legislators want to dismantle the Cardin/Cochran agreement and completely eliminate the TE program. Tell your legislators to support the Cardin/Cochran Amendment and save funding for local trails.

I support Bicycle and Pedestrian Route funding. Preservation of the Cardin/Cochran agreement as part of the transportation authorization bill is immeasurably important to me. I live in Athens and have a bicycle. I want to bike and walk but I also know several people who have been struck by cars cycling on local roads. There’s nowhere safe that a pedestrian or cyclist can go to exercise without having to get in a car first. It’s very important that we invest in Transportation Enhancements to support bicycle and pedestrian route funding.
