In late August, we reported that one of the ponds at Hand Hollow Conservation Area had disappeared. A human-made concrete dam, built in the 1950’s, stopped functioning and the water drained. Neighbors expressed their regrets and the beavers listened. Beavers, active in the area, have plugged the breach and the pond has refilled. Beavers create ponds for protection using the waterways as safe passage between their home and food sources.
