The advanced workshop will build on our introductory workshops, and will include an in-depth discussion of agricultural assessments and a presentation on insurance.

  • 7:00 – 7:15: Introduction, overview of matching program and land leasing, summary of basic workshops

Ag Assessments: Mark Twentyman
Mark recently retired from the NYS Office of Real Property Services (NYSORPS), where he had been employed as an Agricultural Evaluation Specialist since 1980. His chief responsibility had been administering the agricultural assessment program, and his work involved providing information, training and advice to assessors, other municipal officials and taxpayers about the administration of the Agricultural Assessment Program, as well as other property tax programs related to agriculture. While at NYSORPS, Mark’s other duties included specialized valuation assistance, agricultural economic research, land use policy research and teaching the agricultural and rural appraisal course.

Insurance: Kirk Kneller
Kirk has worked in the insurance industry as an owner for 29 years. Currently, he operates five independent agencies – The Lofgren Agency, Brad Peck, Inc., Hermon T. Huntley, Inc., Hennessey Agency, Inc. and Apollo Partners NY, Inc. specializing in working with farms and country estates in eastern New York. Kirk also owns a 30-cow American Milking Devon Farm in Ghent, called Locust Hill Farm. The farm sells custom-cut, grass-fed, grain-finished beef, as well as organic eggs, and also makes 70 acres of organic hay each year.
