This free ecology walk is guided by Conrad and Claudia Vispo from the Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program. It will be an opportunity to observe the remains of historical charcoal pits in our landscape and experience the legacy of this land use in our forest. If you wish to learn more about the history and locations of charcoal production in Columbia County, please check out the Farmscape Ecology Program’s new Charcoal Website. Along the way, participants will also have a closer look at the plant life as it transitions from winter to spring, and try to find signs of animal life. Please register here to reserve your space and get directions.
