Join the Columbia Land Conservancy and Dutchess Land Conservancy for an introduction to soil health led by soil scientist and microbial ecologist, Dr. Lucas, at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies. Dr. Lucas specializes in understanding how management practices influence the soil communities and carbon storage capacity of our soils, and has worked with dairy farmers and land managers across the US and Europe. This event will include an introduction to the connection between soil health and sustainable food production and the global climate, as well as a discussion of soil health principles, benefits of healthy soils and management solutions that improve soil health.
The program will begin with a presentation indoors, after which we will drive a short distance and then take a flat 0.2 mile walk to see Dr. Lucas’ soil research site and continue to discuss soil health and management. A tent and chairs will be available. Please arrive prepared to spend time outdoors! Masks are required for the indoor portion of the workshop.
