Description of buildings

Fencing and water access are the only necessary parts needed. On-site housing would be very useful but not necessary. A barn would also be convenient but also not needed as I will build smaller structures to protect the sheep from harsher elements and rain that will move with them throughout different pastures.

Description of equipment

Electric fencing, moveable shelter, water buckets, solar power for fencing.

Description of water access

Any water access is workable.

Description of fencing

Permanent fencing for the perimeter is very much preferred. Deer fencing would be ideal.

Farm Business

Primary crops or livestock

  • Homesteading
  • Permaculture
  • Sheep

Primary crops or livestock description

Sheep would be the primary livestock, and all other crops would be second to the sheep. I plan to grow dye plants to dye the wool with and vegetables to eat but not to sell.

Marketing method(s)

Selling finished yarn to the NYC metro area would be my goal as well as connecting to weaving education centers- ie The Marshfield School of Weaving and Loop of the Loom.

Other products such as roving, batting, sheepskins, and meats will be sold at a farmers markets within 1-2 hours with the goal being moving away from farmers markets and to a more direct to customer approach. Spending time building a social media presence will lead to this. Outlets such as Instagram, YouTube and Facebook will start this and getting the word out at in person markets will help.
