Primary crops or livestock description
The plan is raise heritage breed livestock; specifically.
- American Milking Devon Cattle (potentially other rare breeds of cattle over time)
- Tunis sheep (and other heritage breeds)
- Dominique, Java, Faverole chickens (eggs)
- Breed of swine not yet determined.
- Honey bees for honey.
Over the years, I have developed relationships with other local farmers. We would create a website to advertise or products, use social media to promote our products and connect with local business' that may want to purchase locally grass fed livestock. The goal is to sell product directly to consumers and/or local restaurants. Also using the Breed Associations and the Livestock Conservancy we would raise livestock that can sold to other farms interested in starting heritage breed operations. In my tenure at Stony Kill, we have recieved numerous individuals interested in purchasing starter flocks or herds for thier operations. The heritage breeds tend to sell at a much higher rate per animal than more common breeds.

Additional experience and education
I was raised on a farm in the Adirondacks. My grandfather had a dairy operation of Holstein cows. I raised Ayrshires for 4-H and showed at the Essex County Fair. I went to SUNY Cobleskill and got my bachelor degree in Animal Science. I ran a small educatioal farm for The Fresh Air Fund in Fishkill, NY since 1994. I interned at Stony Kill Farm in 1995 and currently the President of the Stony Kill Foundation and the interim farm manager for a flock of 12 Tunis sheep, 6 head of cattle (3 American Milking Devons), chickens, pigs, turkeys. We have developed relationships with area farmers who help hay the fields. I am a member of the American Milking Devon Cattle Association and have worked closely to develop and AI program for our cattle to ensure genetic diversity for this rare breed of cattle.
