This workshop will help farmers and landowners better understand the rules and details of the NYS Agricultural Tax Assessment Program and will include a question/answer session about the program. Additionally, farmer volunteers will describe basic concepts for evaluating the productivity of different properties and farm soils, and will help participants learn how to interpret soil maps. The group will discuss general concepts of farmland suitability and review infrastructure and security needs for various types of farm operations.
This workshop will help beginning farmers identify the pros and cons of different farmland tenure arrangements including leases, farm purchases, and conservation easements. A panel of farmers and service providers will discuss their experiences and decision-making processes and offer advice on how to thoughtfully plan for long-term land security.
